At the end of your lease, there will be an amount owing to the financer of your lease. This is known as the ‘residual value’. The options available at the end of the lease, which consider the obligation to repay the residual value, are as follows.
Upgrade your car
You might be surprised at how little it costs to upgrade to a new car! Often our Members are able to transition from their current vehicle to a new one with minimal changes to their deductions each pay. The sale of your current vehicle is used to pay the residual value owing to the financier, and any surplus is yours to keep, tax-free. Should the proceeds not cover the residual value, you would be invoiced any shortfall.

Refinance the lease
If you’re happy with your current vehicle, you may be able to refinance the residual value and continue to enjoy the convenience and tax savings. You’re likely to have saved thousands of the life of your lease so far, so why not let the savings continue?

If you no longer want to enjoy the convenience and tax savings of a fully-budgeted novated lease, the option exists to pay the residual value to the financier. Note that this must be paid using post-tax money, as will all future running costs of the vehicle.
